Issaquah Fitness to Permanently Close November 1, 2021

Dear Members,

We have some sad news to share about Issaquah Fitness and some good news about a new family entertainment center we’ll be opening in Issaquah.

Like many businesses, we were greatly impacted by the pandemic, having to temporarily close our fitness clubs and Arena Sports locations for several months. While our Arena Sports business is recovering quickly, the fitness side has been hit especially hard. The landscape of the fitness industry has changed dramatically over the past year and a half, with more people working out from home. As a result, our Issaquah Fitness membership revenue has decreased by 45%, while costs have remained nearly the same, leaving us facing a tough decision.

After much soul-searching, my wife Karen and I have made the decision to permanently close Issaquah Fitness on November 1st. Our other club, Magnuson Athletic Club, remains strong and will stay open, with no plans to close.

During this transition, our top priority is making sure our employees are taken care of. We are offering nearly all staff members positions in other areas of the business. For those few we don’t have a place for, we are doing our best to help them find other employment and offering severance packages and continuation of benefits.

We are working with 425 Fitness (formerly Gold’s Gym) to create a plan that would allow people with active Issaquah Fitness memberships as of October 31st to get a month free of dues for the month of November, discounted membership pricing, and no joining fee if you join 425 by the end of the year. We will share more details with you as soon as things are finalized.

One of the things that makes Issaquah Fitness so unique is the strong sense of community. Between staff and club members, it’s like a family, and it feels like we are losing an important part of our family.

Coming in 2022 – New Family Entertainment Center at Arena Sports Issaquah

We are sad to see Issaquah Fitness close, but excited to announce that we will be shifting our business focus to create an Arena Sports Family Entertainment Center in the space currently occupied by Issaquah Fitness.

We have a family entertainment center in our Arena Sports Mill Creek location, which has been a huge success and a great addition to the community. This will be a multi-phased development with plans to open in the first half of 2022. The new family entertainment center will be built into the Arena Sports Issaquah building, on the gym side.

Planned attractions include:

  •             Laser tag
  •             Arcade games
  •             Escape rooms
  •             eSports
  •             Inflatable FunZone
  •             Full-service restaurant
  •             Ropes course with zipline (Phase 2)
  •             Climbing walls (Phase 2)

Arena Sports Issaquah offers soccer classes for kids, youth and adult leagues, birthday parties and camps. With the opening of the new family entertainment center, we will be able to serve even more families in the area.

Karen and I are long-time residents of Issaquah and know how much families in our area are going to love this new addition to our community. As hard as the decision to close Issaquah Fitness is, pivoting in the direction of family entertainment feels like the right decision given the current state of the fitness industry.

I want to thank our Issaquah Fitness staff members, some of which have been with us for many, many years, for building such a special community. I also want to thank you, our members, for an amazing 8 years. We will miss seeing all of you on a regular basis at the gym, but hope to see you at the new family entertainment center when it opens!

Don Crowe, CEO of Issaquah Fitness, Magnuson Athletic Club & Arena Sports
